Dr George Pratt is a Specialist Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon (AHPRA- MED1219806) practising in Melbourne, Victoria. George was awarded his medical degree from the University of Western Australia in 2003 and began his career at Royal Perth Hospital where he received the Goatcher Award for most outstanding Intern in 2004. He completed a Post Graduate Diploma of Surgical Anatomy in 2007 (UWA).
George worked as a junior doctor in many fields before commencing specialist training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2012. He completed the Fellowship examinations with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2016 and was admitted as Fellow of the College.
He currently works as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Monash Health, Monash Children’s Hospital and Peninsula Health and has previously worked at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Austin Health. He has admitting rights to multiple private hospitals including Cabrini and Epworth.
Leadership through Research
Dr George Pratt’s continued dedication to the craft is evidenced by his active role in research. In addition to having published many articles in peer reviewed surgical journals, he frequently gives lectures on new techniques and ideas in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at congresses and Universities Australia-wide as well as internationally.
He has a special interest in surgical management of melanoma and currently chairs the Monash Health Melanoma Multidisciplinary Meeting and also chairs the Monash Children’s Hospital Vascular Anomalies Multidisciplinary Meeting.
He is currently undertaking a PhD in Melanoma through Monash University looking at how modern immunotherapies are shaping the future of surgical oncology.
Humanitarian Commitment
Dr George Pratt regularly volunteers his time and expertise to international humanitarian projects. His contributions include performing complex head and neck reconstructions and helping to develop a formal training program for local doctors in South East Asia to become skilled in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Why is a Fully Qualified Surgeon Important?
Dr Pratt is a specialist Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He holds specialist registration with AHPRA (the Australian Medical Board- MED 1219806) in Plastic Surgery.This is an important distinction because in Australia not all doctors performing surgeries have undertaken the same formal training in surgery. Surprising as it may be, any doctor in Australia can undertake operations legally, although the ethics of this practice is often more questionable. Many cosmetic doctors performing invasive operations have had little or no formal hospital based surgical training. Dr Pratt has undertaken 10 years of hospital based surgical training and multiple highly competitive examination processes. Whilst a surgeon of lesser training may be able to perform surgeries when everything is going smoothly, you are better off with a fully qualified plastic and reconstructive surgeon for the following reasons:
