Scar revision surgery is a common technique used to improve the appearance of scars. This surgery involves removing the scar tissue and rejoining the skin to create a less noticeable scar. The approach may vary depending on the size and location of the scar, as well as the patient's individual needs and goals.

FAQs

  • Generally, scars will mature and settle over time with little active involvement on the part of the patient, however this is a gradual process and can take up to 18 months.

  • From the 1-month mark post-operatively, gentle massage and oils such as Vitamin E and silicon treatments may slightly hasten this process, although the results will be similar without these treatments. Silicon treatments are available from your chemist in either cream or strips form. The strips are applied to the scar with tape.

Troublesome scars such as hypertrophic or keloid scars may require further intervention which can be discussed with your surgeon.
